Firebird HVO Partnership

We are thrilled to announce that Firebird has partnered with Karl Henry, the well known personal training and fitness coach. Through this partnership, Karl has been trialling HVO in his own home. Prior to starting on HVO, Karl’s heating system was totally upgraded and his two boilers were replaced with a Firebird 44kW Envirogreen Popular. Karl has been blown away by the efficiency and effectiveness of his new heating system and estimates that he is saving around 35%.

As you know HVO, or Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is a sustainable and renewable alternative to traditional heating oil. With Karl’s help, we hope to raise consumer awareness of HVO and encourage more people to try it in their homes. We are firm believers that HVO is a massive part of the solution for Ireland to reach its 2030 Climate Action plan goals.

Useful Summer Boiler Tips for your Customers

By encouraging customers to have their boiler serviced during the summer months, they can ensure that it is ready to go when the heating season begins, and avoid any unexpected problems or breakdowns that could leave them without heat during the colder months.

It is generally a good idea to advise customers to switch their boiler on once a month during the summer to ensure that the motors and pumps don’t seize up. Here are some reasons why:

  • Prevents mechanical problems: If the boiler sits unused for an extended period of time, the motors and pumps can seize up due to lack of use. By turning on the boiler once a month during the summer, the parts keep moving and prevent them from seizing up.
  • Reduces the risk of breakdowns: Regular use of the boiler during the summer can help to identify any potential issues that may have arisen during the off-season. This can help customers to address any problems early and prevent breakdowns or other issues when they need the boiler to be functioning properly in the winter.
  • Maintains efficiency: Regular use of the boiler can help maintain its efficiency by ensuring that all components are working as they should. This can help customers save money on heating costs and ensure that the boiler is operating at its optimal level when it’s needed most. It’s always a good idea to let customers know to consult with you for guidance on how to properly maintain and care for your boiler.

We were delighted to have been invited to the Public Energy Awareness event that took place in Leitir Móir, Connemara at the end of April, it was a very informative evening.

At a recent Údarás na Gaeltachta board meeting, support was approved for the Islands District Council, to adapt a building for the development of a training centre in the retrofitting of a building in Casla, Connemara. Training courses in retrofitting will be provided, as well as courses focused on lean management, waste management and sustainability in retrofitting. The courses will be made available to contractors, working men and women and unemployed people who want to work in the field of retrofitting. The Islands District Council has already received funding of €110,000 under the Galway Wind Park Major Project Fund for the development of the Retrofit Centre.
